Kis Károly: Magnetic Methods of Applied Geophysics
Magnetic prospecting is one of the oldest geophysical surveys. It has a longhistory from the application of the mining compass of Agricola to the magneticmeasurements from satellites. The interpretation procedures of magneticmeasurements have changed signifi cantly from the graphical methods tocomputer based interpretation. The main aim of this textbook is the detailedsummary and discussion of the contemporary procedures which are presentlyapplied in the magnetic interpretation. The subject of this book, the reductionand analysis of magnetic survey has been developed in the lectures presentedto the students majoring in geophysics at the Eötvös Loránd University. Thepresent book consists of three parts: Fundamentals of the magnetic methods,Mathematical tools of interpretation, and Interpretation of magnetic anomalies. Some mathematical details are summarized in the appendices. The discussedmethods are illustrated by model calculations and fi eld examples.ABOUT THE AUTHORKároly I. Kis is Associate Professor of Geophysics (Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest). He is the author of six university lecture notes on gravity and magneticprospecting, he has written two textbooks and 64 articles on the subject.
