This book contains an extended version of the lecture notes of the Introduction to Applied Linguistics course we have taught in the past few years in various teacher training institutions. Our aim was to give students an overview of the major issues of applied linguistics and equip them with the background knowledge necessary to become professional teachers whose practice is grounded in theory.
